Privacy Policy
Clarity4Us builds RecapTube, an app that summarizes YouTube videos. We designed it to collect as little as possible: there are no accounts, and most of your data stays on your device. This policy explains what is processed, why, and by whom.
Who we are
The data controller is CLARİTY4US DİJİTAL ÇÖZÜMLER VE DANIŞMANLIK ANONİM ŞİRKETİ (“Clarity4Us”, “we”), Sinanpaşa Mah. Süleyman Seba Cad. No: 6 İç Kapı No: 4, 34351 Beşiktaş / İstanbul, Türkiye. Contact: support@clarity4us.com.
What we process, and why
Video transcript & your requests. When you open a video, the app fetches the video's transcript on your device and sends it to our server only to generate the output you asked for (summary, explainer, quiz, flashcards, concept map, chat answer, or subtitle translation). We do not store transcript content on our servers after your request is served.
Listening to a summary. When you tap Listen on a Turkish summary, the summary text is sent to our server, which turns it into audio on a speech server we run ourselves and sends the audio back to your device. Neither the text nor the audio is stored. In other languages your device’s own voice reads the summary, and the summary is not sent anywhere. If our speech server can’t be reached, your device’s voice takes over.
Direct connection to YouTube. To obtain the transcript, the app opens the video's YouTube watch page in a hidden browser component on your device. That is a direct connection between your device and YouTube (Google): Google sees your IP address, your browser information and any YouTube cookies you already have, and may set cookies on your device. This connection does not pass through our server, so none of that data reaches us.
Search terms. If you use in-app search (available in the Android app), your query is sent to our server, which queries the YouTube Data API (Google) to return results.
On-device content. Favorites, your saved library of results, and settings are stored locally on your device (not on our servers). Deleting the app removes them.
Technical logs. Our hosting provider records standard server logs (e.g. IP address, timestamp, requested endpoint) to run and secure the service. We log the number of tokens each request uses for cost monitoring — not the content.
Anonymous usage counts. To notice when something breaks, our server keeps daily totals: how many summaries and other outputs were requested, which AI provider answered and how quickly, and whether the request came from Android or iOS. The platform is read from the app’s version string (for example “RecapTube/5 CFNetwork/… Darwin/25.5.0”), and a small sample of these strings is kept for about a week to check that reading. From app version 1.0.1, after each attempt to fetch a video’s transcript on your device, the app also tells our server whether it succeeded, failed (and the type of failure) or was cancelled, and how long it took. These reports contain no video ID, no device identifier and none of your content. They only increase the daily totals and cannot identify you. When you use Listen, the app also reports which voice read the summary (our speech server or your device’s voice) and the summary’s language; no content or identifier is included.
Third parties who process data for us
We rely on a few processors to run the app. We do not sell your data, and we do not use it for advertising. If you would like to know which companies these are, write to support@clarity4us.com and we will tell you.
- AI providers. To generate summaries and other outputs, the transcript and your questions are sent to one of several third-party AI providers that run servers in the EU and the US. They process this content under their own terms, and some of them may keep the text sent to them. Please don't submit content you consider sensitive or confidential.
- App updates. On launch the app checks our update provider’s servers for a new version. The provider sees your IP address, your operating system and app version, and an installation identifier. None of your content is sent.
- Hosting. Our backend runs with a cloud hosting provider. The speech server that reads Turkish summaries aloud is a server we manage ourselves, in the EU. The app is distributed through the Apple App Store and Google Play, which have their own privacy terms.
- YouTube / Google. Search and basic video metadata use YouTube (Google) services; your use is also subject to Google's Privacy Policy.

How we collect data, and our legal basis
Your personal data is collected electronically, by fully automated means, while you use the mobile app. Under Article 5(2) of KVKK our legal basis is that processing is necessary for the conclusion and performance of a contract (subparagraph c) and our legitimate interest in operating and securing the service (subparagraph f). If you are in the EU, the same processing rests on Articles 6(1)(b) and 6(1)(f) of the GDPR.
International transfers
Some processors above operate servers outside Türkiye (for example in the EU or the US). Where your data is transferred abroad, we rely on the safeguards and legal bases permitted under KVKK and, where applicable, GDPR.
Retention
Transcript and request content is processed transiently to produce your result and is not retained on our servers afterwards. On-device data stays until you delete it or remove the app. Technical logs are kept only as long as needed to operate and secure the service. Anonymous daily totals are kept for about three months, and the sample of app version strings for about a week.
Children
RecapTube is not directed to children and is not intended for use by anyone under the age required in their country (for example 13, or higher where local law requires).
Your rights
Under KVKK (Art. 11) and, if you are in the EU, the GDPR, you may request access to, correction, or deletion of your personal data, and object to or restrict certain processing. Because we keep almost nothing server-side and use no accounts, most of your data lives on your device and is removed when you delete the app. For any request, contact support@clarity4us.com.
Security
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS) and limit access to systems that handle requests. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, but we work to protect your information.
Changes
We may update this policy as the app evolves. We'll post the new version here and update the date above.
